Dr. S. S. C. Chakra Rao was born on May 10, 1951, in Pithapuram. He completed his M.B.B.S. from Rangaraya Medical College (1968 batch) and obtained his Diploma in Anesthesiology from Andhra Medical College.
He began his career as a Tutor in Anesthesiology at Rangaraya Medical College (1981–2003) and Andhra Medical College (1978–1981). Later, he served as Consultant Anesthesiologist and rose to become Additional Director of Medical & Health and Family Welfare in 2009.
He also worked as Regional Director of Medical and Health Services, Visakhapatnam, and retired as DM&HO, Khammam.
Even after retirement, Dr. Chakra Rao continued his passion for service and education — actively training citizens in hands-only CPR and participating in numerous international anesthesiology conferences, including the World Congress of Anesthesiologists (Argentina) and Guest Faculty programs in Malaysia.
He also served as Chairman of the Indian Resuscitation Council Federation (IRCF) and Chairman, IMA National Standing Committee for Resuscitation.
Leadership & Contributions
Dr. Chakra Rao has held several prestigious positions:
- Secretary and later President of the Indian Society of Anesthesiologists (ISA)
- Secretary, ISA (2009–2011) and President, ISA (2013–2014)
- Member, Constitutional Committee of the World Federation of Societies of Anesthesiologists (WFSA), Hong Kong
He has organized multiple CPR training programs and national conferences to promote emergency life-saving skills.
A dedicated professional, he is affiliated with numerous medical associations including IMA, ISA, RSCPA, ISSP, AOA, ARA, ISCCM, Indian Red Cross, AIDAA, and GAPI.
Awards and Recognitions
Dr. Chakra Rao has been honored with several prestigious awards:
- Prof. A. P. Singhal Life Time Achievement Award (ISA, 2021)
- Dr. A. K. N. Sinha National Award (IMA, 2021) for outstanding services
- Best Performance as DM&HO (2004–2005) awarded by the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh
- Gold Medal from Governor of Andhra Pradesh (2005) for his contribution to the Indian Red Cross Society
He was instrumental in formulating the Indian Guidelines of Resuscitation, helping standardize CPR and emergency response across the nation.
Family and Personal Life
Dr. Chakra Rao is married to Smt. Sailaja and is blessed with two daughters, Sunitha and Vinitha.
He is passionate about training every citizen to be a life saver, enjoys making new friends, and continues to live a purposeful retired life in Kakinada.
